Grace Note Award Winner
Sam Sherman

In 1977 the New Mexico Symphony Guild initiated the Grace Note Award. The Grace Note is a note that adds an embellishment to a musical selection. This is a most appropriate name for the award given to a member whose contribution of time and effort to the activities of the Guild are singularly outstanding. The criteria to be considered are:
~Longevity of service
~Variety of service performed in large and small capacities
~Promotion of the NMSG in the community

This year's Grace Note recipient has been a C-note member of the Guild since 1981. She has served on the Designer Showcase committee, the Symphony of Trees committee, the Peter and the Wolf committee, the Popejoy Youth Concerts committee, the Symphony Ball committee, and has been Guild Treasurer and Guild President.

Her dedication and commitment to the Guild continues, as she continues to be involved in numerous Guild activities.

Sam Sherman was surprised with the Grace Note award at the Late Spring Luncheon on May 21, 2009.
Special Recognition of Joan Allan at the Late Spring Luncheon on May 21, 2009

The Guild would like to honor one of our members who has been invaluable to both the Guild and to the NMSO. Joan Allan will be retiring after 21 years of working in the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra Development Office.

Joan joined the Guild in 1971. She has served as President and was a recipient of the Grace Note Award. She has been a constant source of support and a steadfast friend to the Guild. Whenever an answer was needed regarding the NMSO, Joan was the contact we knew we could depend on.

The Guild is very proud of the dedication Joan has given both to the Guild and to the NMSO. The Guild presented Joan with a memento of our tremendous appreciation and admiration.
